#3944 Elite Limoges Miniature Teacup with Attached Saucer

A very tiny teacup with attached saucer made by Elite Works, Bawo and Dotter, Limoges France.  Red decorating mark is c.1891-1900.  Bawo and Dotter were New York importers and had a decorating studio in Limoges, France, which they called The Elite Works.  Cup is 1 1/4" across top.  Saucer is 1 3/4" diameter.  Together, height is approximately 1".  Decorated with dainty purple daisies that are hand painted.  Rims are gold-trimmed.  An example of a similar cup is found on page 304 of Harran's Collectible Cups and Saucers, Book III.  Excellent condition. A very unusual collector's item.

 SOLD#2742 French Demicups SOLD

All pieces are simply marked France except for one cup which has an added red mark that says something like Pillivuyt et C^ie., la Porcelaine de France which I assume was/is probably a decorating mark for this factory/studio.  The closest I can come to identifying it is on page 271 of Danckert's Directory of European Porcelain.  However, this exact mark is not represented there, nor is there much information except they began in business in 1853.  These cups, however, are definitely not that old and appear to be c.mid-20th century or later.  The city of origin appears to be Mehun-sur-Yevre.  Age unknown.  These beautiful cups are 2" tall x 2" diameter across top opening.  Saucers are 4 1/4" diameter.  One cup has a minor flaw in the side (see picture) which is under the glaze and apparently a manufacturing flaw.  Other than that, they are in excellent condition.  Gorgeous Cranberry with heavy gold trim

#2730 Limoges W. G. & Co. Demitasse Cups and Saucers

The mark is that of William Guerin & Co., Limoges, France, and is dated to c.1900-1932.  (Source:  Collector's Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain, Third Edition, by Gaston, page 134).  Heavily encrusted gold trim.  Cup is 2 1/8" tall x 2 1/4" across top.  Saucer is 4 5/8" diameter.  Excellent condition.

#2265 Lapis Blue and Gold Demicups

These are beautiful and appear to be perfect, but am rating them Good to Excellent condition because of some very slight wear of gold here and there on some (not all) of them -- only noticeable upon close examination.  Also, the decals on some (not all) of them are off center.  Age and origin unknown, but these are definitely old.  Possibly Limoges, but we don't know.  Have not been able to identify this mark.  The pieces that are left are the ones with the decals slightly off center.

Cup is 2 1/4" tall x 2" across top opening.  Saucer is 4 3/8" diameter.

Unsigned.  Most likely an American china painter.  Whiteware from Haviland & Co. in Limoges, France. Mark used c.1894-1931 (Source:  Collector's Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain, Third Edition, by Gaston, page 178).  Saucer is 5" diameter.  Cup is 2 3/4" tall.  A real beauty.  Excellent condition.

SOLD#3929 M. Redon Limoges Small TeacupSOLD

From Martial Redon of Limoges, France.  Marks were used c.1905-late 1930's.  Green mark is a whiteware mark.  Red mark is a decorating mark.  The PL is for La Porcelain Limousine, the new factory name as of c.1905.  (Source:  Collector's Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain, Third Edition, by Gaston, page 269)  This is a very special little cup and saucer -- so dainty and so very pretty with its beautiful roses and gold decoration.  It is, unfortunately, not perfect as we believed when we purchased it (read note below).  Priced accordingly, as is.  A nice example of this old Limoges factory and its marks.

 The saucer is 4" diameter.  The cup is 1 3/8" tall x 2 5/16" diameter.  Perhaps intended to be a child's cup and saucer.

The cup does have a hairline in the side, not noticeable from the front, but visible on the inside front panel -- will post a picture asap.  I only found it just now when trying to determine if the roses are hand painted, which they are.

A. Lanternier & Co., Limoges France.  This mark is shown in two different references as being after WW I.  How long after for this cup and saucer, we don't know.  Elegant off-white and gold.  Ribbed design on both.  Excellent condition.

SOLD#2713 Limoges Style Hand Painted TeapotSOLD

Unmarked.  Age unknown.  Absolutely gorgeous!!  Gold handle, gold trim, gold finial.   Soft pink spout.  Soft purple and lavender flowers.  Excellent condition -- appears to have never been used at all -- probably always just for display.  3 1/2" tall to neck rim and 5 1/8" to top of lid finial.  8" wide from outer tips of spout and handle.

SOLD#2543 Old Haviland Limoges Chocolate Cup and SaucerSOLD

According to page 178 of Gaston's Third Edition Limoges book, the marks date this cup to somewhere between c.1894-1931.  Notice the graceful shape of the cup as it flares out at the top.  NOT PERFECT -- has a tiny fleabite on the rim (look closely at rim in 1st picture below left) -- I almost missed it.  It is priced accordingly.

 The cup is 3" tall x 3" diameter across top opening.  The saucer is 5 1/8" diameter.

A beautiful little decorative demicup and saucer.  Gorgeous green and gold with a beautiful Love Story figural transfer scene in a gold cartouche.  Besides the round Limoges France mark, it has a crown mark that says Veritable Porcelaine D'Art.  The cup is 2" tall x 2" diameter at top opening.  Saucer is 4 1/8" diameter.  Age unknown, but not old.  Excellent condition.

Straus and Sons, Limoges, France, c.1891 to mid-1920's.  An export mark.  (Source:  Collector's Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain, Third Edition, by Gaston, page 278).  Gorgeous little cup and saucer with its heavy gold trim, delicate peach/pink florals, scalloped saucer, and shell-like designs around edges of both pieces.  Excellent Condition.

Blue and Gold.  Notice the very heavy gold trim of this beautiful little cup and saucer.  This set is in excellent condition.  There is a small place on the rim (see picture below) which appears to be in the manufacturing because it is under the gold -- it is only 3/16" of an inch.

Gorgeous.  Hand painted and hand decorated.  Panels of pink, yellow, and wine roses alternating with black panels, all outlined with beautiful white beading.  Gold handle and rims put the finishing touches on this beauty.  The rim has a minor professional repair on the gold which is not seen -- we know it's there because we had it repaired because of a small nick.  The dark green mark is that of the Coiffe factory of Limoges, France, and is shown on page 90 of Gaston's Third Edition Limoges book as being used in the years c.1891-1914. 

The cup is 3 1/16" tall and the saucer is approximately 5" diameter.

SOLD#2542 GDA Limoges Chocolate CupSOLD

The marks are that of Gerard, Dufraisseix & Abbot who formed that partnership c.1900 and apparently used these marks c.1900-1941.  (Source:  Gaston's Limoges Third Edition, page 152.)  This is a beautiful chocolate cup and saucer with its striking gold and green decoration.  Notice also the beautiful shape of the body and the saucer rim.   It is NOT PERFECT.  It does have some wear of the gold around the rim of the cup which can be touched up; however, the wear serves as a testament to its age and is beautiful just as it is.  It is in otherwise perfect condition.

 Excellent condition.  The green mark is that of Laviolette and was used c.1896-1905 on whiteware.  The other mark appears to be that of LS&S (Strauss, Lewis and Sons) and was used c.1890-1920's.  Apparently LS&S did the decorating.  The cups measure 3" tall x 2" across the top opening.  The saucers are  5" diameter.

Beautiful blue with gold trim.  Good condition.  Some wear on the gold here and there.  One cup has a hairline on the inside wall (doesn't go through to the outside).  Two saucers each have a slightly rough tip on the rims that can only be felt and not seen.  They are priced accordingly.  Other than the aforementioned, these are wonderful little display cups and appear to be quite old.  A popular reference book shows this green underglaze mark to be from c.1893-1930. 

Cups are 1 34" tall x 3 1/4" across top opening.

Saucers are 4 3/4" diameter.

Good to excellent condition, especially for their age.  These marks were used during the years of c.1890's - 1931.  Both cups have some slight loss of gold on the topside of the rim -- only noticeable when looking down on the cups from a top view.  I have adjusted the price per set accordingly.  These are very beautiful old cups and would be great additions to any cup collection.  The cups are 2 1/4" tall x 2 1/8" across top of cup.  The saucers are 4 3/8" diameter.
