#3912 JKW Carlsbad
Love Story
Dinner Set
Lot #3912 is SOLD |
|
JKW is for
Josef Kuba Porcelain Factory
and Decorating Shop.
Established in Carlsbad around 1930 and then
re-established after World War II in Wiesau, Bavaria, Germany.
(Source: Directory
of European Porcelain by Danckert, page 496). With only the word Carlsbad in the mark, we believe this set
to be late 1940's (after World War II and before the division
of Germany in late 1949 into East
and West). Later marks of
JKW include the words Western
Germany, which these do not have. Notice that the JKW mark is stamped
over another mark. That was typical of decorating shops to use
whiteware produced by other factories and then attempt to cover up that mark
with their own decorating mark. |
|
|
|
We purchased this set from a German family who received
them around 1960 from the owner of the factory. They
were still packed in their original boxes, straw and all. At the point
that we made the purchase, most of the original packing had already been
discarded, so we were able to salvage only the two paper labels which are
shown below and seem to indicate the name of the shape
(Fanny Elbler)
and color (Margrit
Rose) of the set. This set has NEVER BEEN USED
and is in pristine condition.
Six place settings and most of
the serving pieces are currently on Layaway.
All additional place settings and
pieces are now SOLD. Below are a few group closeups, followed by individual
listings of each category of items and the prices per piece. |

SOLD#3901 JKW Carlsbad Bohemia Love Story PlateSOLD |

JKW is for

Established in Carlsbad around 1930 and then
re-established after World War II in Wiesau, Bavaria, Germany.
(Source: Directory
of European Porcelain by Danckert, page 496).

With only the word Carlsbad in the mark, we believe this plate
to be late 1940's (after World War II and before the division
of Germany in late 1949 into East

JKW include the words
Western
Germany, which this does not have. Figural scene is in transfer
and one reproduced from the work of Fragonard,
